Description

Who determines which students receive LDHL loans?
Members of our Finance and Program committees determine the eligibility of loan applicants and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. Final award determinations are made during a meeting of the full board in May.

Who is eligible for a loan?
Any student who is a legal resident of Lancaster County, who will be attending an accredited institution of post-secondary education full time in the coming school year, and who demonstrates financial need is eligible for an LDHL loan. A student may receive up to four loans during his/her lifetime.

How are loan recipients selected?
Loans are awarded to those applicants with the greatest financial need. Need is based on the Student Aid Index amount located on the FAFSA Submission Summary.

What are the guidelines for applying?
Complete the online application.  A copy of the FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) from the applicant’s 2025-2026 FAFSA filing is required also for a complete application. Follow the directions carefully in completing the online application.

What is the application deadline?
The deadline is 4/30/25 for the 2025-26 academic year. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on the date of the deadline.

When will I be notified?
Recipients of LDHL traditional loans will be notified by June 6, 2025 if they have been awarded a loan or not.

What are the requirements for repayment?
Repayments begin no later than six months from the date the loan recipient stops being a full-time student. Repayments are made monthly and are automatically deducted from the payer’s bank account. For additional information, please consult the Repayment Info section of the LDHL website.

Where does LDHL get its funds?
LDHL funds come from three sources: repayments from prior loan recipients, contributions from the community, and interest from investments.

NOTE: Loans from LDHL are not grants or scholarships. Loan documents issued by LDHL constitute valid and legally binding obligations on the part of the borrower and the co-signer and carry the full force of the law.
